U.S. Army Baseball Card Series:

Commemorative Major League Baseball Cards

In 2022, I had the distinct honor of creating the design for a unique project aimed at fostering awareness of U.S. Army history.  The U.S. Army Center of Military History created a limited-edition set of baseball cards honoring Army veterans who later became notable figures in Major League Baseball and the Negro Leagues. This collection featured renowned players such as Jackie Robinson, Joe DiMaggio, Whitey Ford, and Willie Mays, among others.

The cards were distributed for free at several Washington Nationals games throughout the season, allowing fans to connect with the rich tradition of Army veterans in professional baseball. The project was a perfect blend of my professional skills and personal passions. As a lifelong baseball fan, I was thrilled to discover we highlighted Al Bumbry, my childhood hero and the first player whose jersey I owned.

One of the most rewarding moments of this project came in 2023 when the Baltimore Orioles reached out to the Center, having learned of Bumbry’s inclusion in our card set, and requested copies for Mr. Bumbry and his family. This recognition was a testament to the impact and reach of our work.

This project stands as a career highlight for me, combining graphic design with my personal military heritage and love for baseball, allowing me to create a meaningful connection between the public and the rich history of the U.S. Army
