ABOUT ME

Michael R. Gill Designer / Creator

I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1997, and served in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot for over six years. After serving my country, I returned to doing what I truly love: design. My career as a designer began at the National Association of Credit Management in Columbia, Maryland, in 2005. Soon afterwards, I was given the opportunity to ply my trade in the multimedia department of the United States Department of State, in Washington, D.C.  I now work for the United States Army Center of Military History, also in D.C.

Recently, I launched my own creator agency,  Mental Kinetics.

My career has granted me the chance to create print and digital projects some of the world’s most influential people, most notably, former Presidents of the United States, the U.S. Secretary of State, and international diplomats. My projects included the U.S. State Department’s Trafficking in Persons Report 2006, which was presented to the United Nations Security Council, and virtually every major news organization worldwide. In my current capacity, I have been given the opportunity to work with some of the most renowned national and international military historians. And finally, I am proud to be the lead designer of Army History, the U.S. Army’s premiere professional historical journal. Army History has grown over the decade to become an internationally respected gold standard, and articles that have appeared have won numerous national awards. Most notably, Douglas E. Nash Sr.’s “Kesternich: The Battle That Saved the Bulge” (2019) received a Pulitzer Prize nomination.

Recently, I was awarded a technology patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for creating a new way for creatives to push the digital boundaries of their imagination. I hope you have enjoyed my work, because it has been an absolute pleasure for me to create it. And trust me, there’s much more to come.
